How to Replace the Fuel Filter on a 1994 Camaro

The 1994 Chevrolet Camaro was the fourth generation of Camaro models. The 1994 Camaro came equipped with either a V-6 or V-8 engine; both had electronic fuel injection. The fuel filter protects the fuel injection system and engine from damage by debris in the gas tank. Fuel filters must be changed at regular intervals or fuel flow may be restricted. Chevy recommends that you replace the fuel filter every 30,000 miles or 24 months.

Things You'll Need

  • Needle nose pliers
  • Floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • Catch tray
  • 17 mm open end wrench
  • Locate the "fuel pump" fuse and remove it from the fuse panel. Use needle nose pliers to pull the fuse if it is difficult to remove.

  • Start the vehicle and let it run until it stops, to relieve the fuel pressure on the fuel filter.

  • Raise the rear of the car using the floor jack and secure the vehicle on jack stands.

  • Locate the fuel filter, which is located in front of the rear axle on the passenger side. Place the catch tray directly under the fuel filter.

  • Using a 17 mm open-end wrench, remove the outlet fitting on the fuel filter. The outlet fitting is located on the end of the fuel filter closest to the front of the vehicle.

  • Squeeze the plastic retainer tabs on the rear of the fuel filter to remove the inlet connection.

  • Slide the filter towards the front of the car to remove it from the fuel filter bracket.

  • Install the new fuel filter by sliding the filter into the fuel filter bracket from the front of the car to the rear.

  • Squeeze the plastic release tabs and slide the connection onto the new fuel filter.

  • Tighten the fuel outlet connection on the new fuel filter using the 17 mm wrench.

  • Remove the catch tray and properly dispose of any excess captured in the tray.

  • Lower the vehicle form the jack stands using the floor jack. Replace the "fuel pump" fuse and replace the fuse panel cover.
