How to Replace Headlight Bulbs on a 2001 Galant

The headlights in the 2001 Galant represent an important safety measure that allows drivers to safely travel at night and through poor weather conditions. The headlights have a limited lifespan and will eventually burn out after several thousand miles of driving. Owners should replace the headlight bulbs immediately after they burn out to ensure their safety while driving. A mechanic is not required to change the headlight bulbs.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement bulb model no. 9003
  • Locate the headlight socket cover inside the engine compartment. The cover is on the back of the headlight assembly; it is round and made of plastic or rubber.

  • Remove the headlight socket cover by pulling it off or twisting it to the left and then pulling it off. You can see the headlight socket once the cover is removed.

  • Grip the headlight socket, turn it to the left and pull it out of the assembly. The light bulb is connected to the socket.

  • Pull the bulb straight out of the socket and discard it in a waste receptacle.

  • Plug the replacement bulb into the socket, taking care not to touch the glass. The oils on your skin can shorten the life of the bulb if you touch the glass. Wear gloves to prevent touching the glass.

  • Place the socket back into the light assembly and turn it to the right to lock it in place.

  • Slide the headlight socket cover over the socket and press on it to secure it, or turn it to the right, depending on how you have removed it in Step 2.

  • Repeat Steps 2 through 7 to replace the other headlight bulb.
