How to Remove a Door Panel From a 1998 Buick Park Avenue

The 1998 Buick Park Avenue installed comfort features on the driver's side door to make access to it simpler. When you take the door panel out, it is important to remember which wires go to which switch. Mark each connector with the name of the feature you disconnected it from. You can write it out on masking tape and stick it on the wiring connector. This will make installation that much simpler when you put the panel back together.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Open the door of the panel that needs to be removed. Locate the screw in the door handle.

  • Loosen the screw on the door latch with a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the trim away from the handle and power window switches.

  • Disconnect the power window switches by pulling the wires off the back of the switch. Pull the tab up with your fingers and pull the connector away from the switch. Separate the whole trim piece from the door handle.

  • Pry the door's arm rest up with a flat head screwdriver. Pry it gently as the arm rest will release. Locate the wires on the bottom of the arm rest.

  • Unplug the wiring harnesses from the bottom of the arm rest. Pull the tabs up and slide the connector off the arm rest. This will isolate the power window and seat controls. Loosen the two screws below where the arm rest was sitting with a Phillips head screwdriver.

  • Pull the door panel off the door. Pull at each corner gently. The door panel is held to the door by plastic grommets that can break easy. There are nine grommets spaced evenly around the door panel holding it to the door.

  • Separate the panel from the door. Disconnect any remaining wiring that is attached to the door panel. This will release the door panel.
