How to Reset the Oil Change Warning on a Lexus IS250

The oil change warning system on a Lexus IS250 allows you to track when your next scheduled maintenance is necessary. While the system offers a friendly reminder when service is needed, it can only inform you of necessary maintenance if the system is reset at each service. If you do your own service or take your IS250 to a shop other than the dealership, you may drive around with the oil change warning on, ever after a service is completed. Thankfully, resetting the oil change warning on an IS250 is an easy process.

Things You'll Need

  • Lexus ignition key
  • Complete necessary maintenance. Whether you complete maintenance on your own or take it to a private shop, make sure that all maintenance recommended in the IS250 owner’s manual is completed when the oil change indicator light is lit.

  • Insert the key. Insert the key into the ignition, but do not move the key from the off position.

  • Hold the trip odometer button. This button is located next to the odometer and trip odometer on the bottom of the instrument panel. Continue holding the trip odometer button.

  • Move the key to “on.” With the trip odometer button depressed, move the key to the on position. If your IS250 has a keyless ignition system, press the ignition button twice with your foot off the brake.

  • Wait for the warning system to reset. Depending on the model year, this may take up to 15 seconds. Continue holding the trip odometer reset button until you see zeros on the odometer display. Once the oil change light flashes and turns off, the system is reset. With the system reset, you may remove the key or turn the keyless ignition off.
