Dodge Magnum Cabin Filter Installation

The Dodge Magnum was first manufactured in mid-2004 as a 2005 model series. While it featured four different engine sizes (two different six-cylinder engines and two different eight cylinder engines), the procedure to replace the cabin air filter employed the same procedure. In fact, all four different engines use the exact same cabin air filter. Cabin air filters optimize the quality of air in the passenger cab of the vehicle and should be replaced every 15,000 miles or less if necessary.

Filter Location

  • Open the hood to the Dodge Magnum to locate the cabin air filter. The Magnum places the filter in the upper passenger side cowl. This simplifies the replacement procedure because it does not require removing a glove box assembly, which is required in many vehicles.

Locate the filter cover on top of the windshield cowl. You will note two snap release buttons on the filter cover. Disengage the snaps and then pivot the cover on the bottom hinge to release it.

Replacing the Filter

  • Simply pull the filter out of the chamber to remove it. Take note of the position of the filter as you're removing it. Cabin air filters are directional filters and need to be replaced according to airflow for optimum performance. Most all cabin air filters will have an arrow indicator or the word airflow stamped on the side of the filter to show you in which direction the filter needs to be installed.

Look on the new filter to match the airflow direction indicator, insert it into the cabin air filter chamber and then replace the filter cover on the cowl. Set the hinge of the cover into the cowl first and then close it until you see the snap retainers hold the cover.

Filter Brands

  • Before purchasing the cabin air filter on your Dodge Magnum, you may consider shopping around. There are plenty of quality aftermarket companies that make direct-fit cabin air filters for all makes and models. While Dodge employees will try to convince you buy from them, you might find their price a little steep compared to some quality aftermarket filters. In addition, there are washable filters that can be used for the cabin air filter. While the quality of these types of filters is high, so is their price and they require frequent maintenance and cleaner kits which cost as much as most paper filament filter replacements. Since the procedure to replace the cabin air filter in the Magnum is relatively benign, a quality aftermarket filter replaced during the recommended service intervals should suffice.
