How to Remove the Battery From a Cadillac DeVille

The battery in a Cadillac DeVille is the primary component of a very complex electrical system. The Cadillac requires a strong battery to power all the accessories that makes it the comfortable and reliable car that it is. The battery will only take a few moments to remove.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Socket set
  • Open the hood to access the engine compartment. The battery will be located at the front of the motor, next to the radiator.

  • Locate the positive and negative terminals at the back of the battery. The positive will be red and the negative will be black.

  • Unscrew the red terminal with a socket wrench and place it to the side. Do not allow the red and black terminals to touch, as this could cause an electrical arc and a possible electrical failure.

  • Unscrew the black terminal with a socket wrench and place it out of the way of the battery. The battery is disconnected from the electrical system.

  • Unbolt the bracket holding the battery in place. The bolt will be at the base of the battery. It can be removed with a socket wrench.

  • Pull the battery straight up and lift it out of the car. Some batteries will have a handle to make lifting easier. Some batteries will need to be grasped by the bottom and lifted out.
