How to Change a Ford Maxi Fuse

Fuses regulate the power running through a vehicle's electrical and computer systems. Engine malfunction or excessive strain on the computer's electrical systems can overload a fuse, causing it to burn out. Fuses can be replaced handily by the vehicle's owner. You can purchase replacement fuses at any auto-parts store. The fuse box on the Ford Maxi series of econo and micro vans can be found on the lower side of the dash panel near the break pedal.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement fuse
  • Shut your vehicle off and remove the key. Wait for all the power systems such as the internal light have shut down.

  • Open the panel cover by pressing on the indentations and then pulling the cover toward you. The panel cover is clearly marked and made of hard plastic. Look on the inside of the panel cover for a diagram noting the placement of specific fuses and the maximum rating for each one. or horn. This will also expose a small plastic grip (similar to pliers) that can be used to remove and add fuses, although not totally necessary.

  • Remove the burned-out fuse using the small plastic grip attached to the inside of the panel cover. The burned-out fuse will have obvious scorch marks.

  • Place a replacement fuse with the same rating in the slot that held the burned-out fuse. Fuses are clearly marked with a number that represent their rating in amps.

  • Close the fuse panel.
