2008 Honda Civic Installation Instructions

Your 2008 Honda Civic has several maintenance items that need to be installed on a regular basis. Most of the items require a service technician or experienced professionals. The two primary items you can replace on your own are bulbs and filters. Replacing each is simple and doesn't require any tools.

Auto Bulbs

  • Your 2008 Honda Civic is equipped with halogen bulbs. Replacing the bulbs is very simple and only takes a few minutes. You can replace the headlight bulbs by reaching behind the headlight assembly and twisting the bulb module counterclockwise. Once the bulb module is out, unhook the old bulb and mount the new one. Insert the module into the assembly and turn it clockwise to lock it. Your 2008 Honda Civic uses bulb number 9006 for the low-beams and 9005 for the high-beams.

You can replace the tail light bulbs by opening your trunk and pulling back the carpet liner in the corner of the trunk. Once the liner is pulled back, the replacement procedure is identical to the headlight bulbs. The tail light uses bulb number 168.

Filters

  • A cabin air filter is designed to remove contaminants, dust and pollen from the outside air and keep it from entering your vehicle. The cabin air filter on your 2008 Civic is very simple to change. Honda recommends replacing it every 15,000 miles to keep your air conditioner operating properly. Change your cabin air filter by opening your glove box and squeezing the sides of it together to unhook the side stop-latches. Once the glove box door is off, look in the cavity and pull the old filter out. Simply insert the new filter (arrow facing down) and replace the glove box door.

The 2008 Honda Civic, like most vehicles, is also equipped with an engine air filter. This filter keeps contaminants from entering your air intake system and ultimately your engine. Replace your air filter every 12,000 to 15,000 miles for best results. You can easily replace the filter by opening your hood and accessing your air intake box. Open the tabs on the air intake box and pull the two halves apart. Note the position of the arrow and pull the old filter out. Install the new filter with the arrow in the same position and close the tabs.
