How to Unlock the Door on a Jeep Cherokee

Locking your keys in your vehicle can easily happen. You should always try to have a spare set of keys made for your vehicle, but this can be expensive if you have a newer vehicle with a chip encoded key. Before you call a locksmith which can cost a minimum of $50, you can try to unlock your Jeep Cherokee yourself with a wire hanger. It takes some time and patience, but using a hanger to unlock the door on your Jeep Cherokee is a viable option.

Things You'll Need

  • Wire Hanger
  • Pliers
  • Unwrap the wire on the top of the wire hanger.

  • Flatten out the wire hanger completely with the pliers.

  • Bend a square hook on one end of the wire. The hook should be 1 inch wide and have a 2 to 3-inch hook arm.

  • Pull out on the top of the Jeep Cherokee door (have a friend do this). Feed the hook behind the rubber door gasket.

  • Push down on the wire until it is viewable through the door window. Bend the wire toward you and feed the wire down farther toward the Jeep Cherokee door handle. Have a friend help direct you by having them watch through the door window on the other side. Hook the door handle and pull the wire up to open the Jeep Cherokee door.
