The 2009 Hummer H2 must be elevated and level in order to allow all of the used engine oil to escape from the baffles within the oil pan during the oil change procedure. You should exercise caution when lifting your H2, and use only the approved lifting points on the frame members, axles and rear differential, to avoid causing damage to the exhaust system, undercarriage or fuel tanks.
Open the hood and find the oil filler cap and dipstick on the passenger side of the engine, and remove the engine oil filler cap. Chock the rear wheels. Raise the front of the H2 -- one side at a time -- using a floor jack under the front axles, and support the front with jack stands placed under the forward frame jacking points, just to the rear of the front wheel wells.
Raise the rear of the H2 using the floor jack under the jacking point on the rear differential. Support the rear of the vehicle on jack stands under the jacking points located on the rear axle, just to each side of the differential housing.
Find the engine oil pan drain plug and filter at the lower-rear of the engine, just forward of the transmission bell-housing, and position a drain pan under it.
Remove the engine oil pan drain plug, using a wrench, and allow the oil to drain completely from the engine. Wipe the area around the drain hole with a clean shop rag. Install the plug and torque it to 18 foot-pounds, using a foot-pound torque wrench and socket.
Remove the old oil filter, using a cup wrench and ratchet. Wipe the filter mount with a clean shop rag to remove residual oil or road grime. Ensure that the old oil filter gasket is not stuck to the filter mount.
Wipe a thin coat of fresh motor oil on the new filter's gasket. Spin the filter onto the mount by hand, then torque it to 22 foot-pounds, using a foot-pound torque wrench and cup wrench. Wipe any residual oil from the filter with a shop rag. Lower the H2 to the ground. Add 6 quarts of engine oil to the engine, and check the drain plug and filter for leaks. Test run the engine. Ensure that the oil pressure comes up, and check for leaks. Shut the engine down, wait to minutes and verify the level with the dipstick.
Locate the "Fuel Information" button on the driver information center, and press it until it cycles through to "Engine Oil Life." Press and hold the "Select" button for five seconds, then release. The "Oil Life Reset" message displays for 10 seconds to confirm that the reset was successful.
