The Honda CR-V gave SUV lovers a smaller alternative and a smaller price tag than the larger SUVs on the market in the late 1990s. Lift the hood on your CR-V to see if there is a white chalky substance on the battery. It's battery acid and it means you need to replace the battery. Honda recommends that drivers replace parts with genuine Honda parts.
Look for the battery on the driver's side, just behind the slanted headlight box.
Remove the metal holder with a flathead screwdriver. Take out the long screws that hold the plate in place.
Disconnect the cable ends from the battery terminals with a battery terminal puller.
Lift the battery out of the compartment. Keep your gloves on at all times to avoid getting acid on your hands.
Use a wire brush to clean the surface that holds the battery. Wipe it down with a damp cloth and let it dry.
Clean the insides of the connector cables with a pointed wire brush and dry them off with an old cloth you can throw away.
Place the new battery on the shelf. Attach the correct cable on each terminal and tighten it securely with pliers or a socket wrench. Replace the metal battery holder.
