How to Lower a Nissan Hardbody

A Nissan hardbody is a very popular truck among the custom minitruck crowd. The truck has thousands of aftermarket parts and accessories and can be customized very easily. The type of suspension on the Nissan hardbody makes it easy to lower or lift the vehicle. When altering the suspension, most enthusiasts choose to lower Nissan hardbodies, which makes them handle and perform better. It takes less then three hours to lower a a Nissan hardbody truck. Some tools and automotive experience is needed.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet
  • Socket set
  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Lowering blocks

Front

  • Raise the front of the Nissan hardbody and place jack stands under the front end directly underneath the bars of the frame.

  • Crawl underneath the front end and locate the torsion bar and bolt. The bar has two bolts, one on each end. The bolts are on the underside facing the ground.

  • Turn the torsion bar bolt in a counter clockwise direction to lower it and a clockwise direction to raise it. Do this for each side, turning each one the same number of turns to keep the sides level.

  • Lower the truck to the ground to check the height. Re-adjust the torsion bar bolts as desired.

Rear

  • Jack up the rear end of the Nissan hardbody. Place a jackstand on each side underneath the frame to hold the truck up.

  • Remove the U-bolts on each side of the rear suspension by unbolting them from the leaf springs. Do one side at a time.

  • Place a lowering block on the leaf spring, making sure the bump on the lowering block fits into the notch on the leaf spring.

  • Replace the U-bolts and bolt them back to the leaf spring, around the new lowering blocks. Repeat the aforementioned steps on the other side. Lower the truck to the ground.
