In 1999, the Cougar made its return to Mercury's lineup, but this time as a front-wheel-drive sports coupe with ties to the Ford Contour. In 2001, the optional 2.5-liter, V-6 engine was the powerplant of choice for drivers who wanted a little extra performance, thanks to its 50-horsepower advantage over the base 2.0-liter engine.
The Mercury Cougar's 2.5-liter, V-6 engine's oil capacity is 5.8 quarts, including the capacity of the oil filter. Mercury recommends using only API-certified 5W-20 oil in the V-6 engine.
