The main function of the brake light switch is controlling the brake lights. First, check the fuses and bulbs to ensure they are not bad before troubleshooting the switch.
The cruise control deactivation is also controlled by the brake switch. If your cruise control is sticking, there is a good chance your brake switch may be going bad.
The anti-lock braking system (ABS) is more of a challenge to troubleshoot. The PT Cruiser is equipped with an indicator light for the ABS system if there is an issue. This should be addressed by a professional mechanic.
If your PT Cruiser is an automatic, the gear shift interlock release is controlled by the brake switch as well. If your automatic transmission shifter is not shifting correctly, it may be the brake switch.
