Acura Tl Idle Problem

Introduced in 1995, the Acura TL is a luxury sports automobile manufactured by Acura. The Acura TL can suffer from idling problems.

Leaks

  • An erratic or surging Acura TL idle can be the result of air bypassing the throttle. Check for leaks in the engine’s hoses and vacuum fittings as well as in the throttle body and intake manifold gaskets, and make any necessary replacements.

IACV

  • The idle air control valve (IACV), located in the Acura TL throttle body, adjusts the engine idle speed by closing or opening to block or enable the passage of air through the throttle body. A bad IACV valve may stick in the open or closed position, permitting excess or reduced air into the engine intake. Check the IACV valve and valve connection for wear or damage and replace it to restore proper idling operation.

Bad

  • The Acura TL fast idle thermo valve (FITV), a mechanical valve controlled by the engine control unit that allows or prevents the passage of air based on coolant temperature, can fail in an Acura TL. Excess air forces the engine control unit to attempt to compensate, resulting in fast idling. Inspect the FITV along with the wiring for signs of wear, corrosion or other damage and replace it as needed.
