Mercury Mountaineer Stalling Problems

The Mercury Mountaineer is a luxury vehicle manufactured by the Ford Motor company. Over the years, various models have experienced issues with the cars stalling as a result of manufacturing defects.

Spark Plugs

  • In some Mercury Mountaineers manufactured between 1997 to 2005, problems have been reported with the spark plugs. Some drivers have reported a loud popping sound upon starting up the car and the car would stall out.

Air Flow Sensor

  • The fuel injection system of a Mercury Mountaineer relies on an air flow sensor. If this sensor is bad, the system can malfunction, resulting in stalling, misfiring or poor acceleration. Keep your air flow sensor clean.

Other Complaints

  • Owners of Mercury Mountaineers have also reported problems with stalling when idling, stalling when shifting or stalling as a result of failures in the electrical system.
