How to Locate the Battery on a Suzuki GSXR

The Suzuki GSX-R is a popular Japanese sports bike with a reputation for blistering speed and superb handling. Originally built as a mid-1980s competitive racer, the street-legal version quickly became a favorite with bike enthusiasts all over the world. Parts are easy to come by, and most maintenance tasks are simple and straightforward.

Things You'll Need

  • Allen key set
  • Cross-head screwdriver
  • Place the bike on the main stand and turn the ignition off. Locate two Allen screws in the fairing just below each side of the seat. Turn an Allen-keys counterclockwise to remove them.

  • Lift the back of the seat up and pull it back at the same time. Remove the seat from the bike. The battery is just behind the fuel tank. The negative terminal is to the right; the positive, covered by a red plastic protector, is to the left.

  • Remove the battery by unscrewing the terminal clamps with a cross-head screwdriver. Lift the battery up and out of its compartment.
