How to Turn Off the Perform Service Message on a Jeep 2002 Grand Cherokee

The 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee is equipped with a regular maintenance tracking system built in to the computer. The system monitors driving conditions and engine conditions to determine when regular maintenance needs to be done. A message appears on the control panel reminding the driver to perform service. Most auto mechanics will reset this notification when they perform the maintenance. If you do the maintenance yourself, you also can turn the message off yourself.

  • Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" setting. Do not start the engine.

  • Close all of the doors.

  • Press the "Step" button repeatedly until "0 Miles" is displayed. The "Step" button is located on the overhead control panel.

  • Press and hold the "Reset" button until the "0 Miles" message resets. The "Reset" button is located near the "Step" button. This should turn off the "perform service" message.
