How to Reset the Service Needed Light on an Acura RL

Many Acura RL models use a service reminder system that tracks operating conditions, accumulated engine revolutions and other variables to determine when regular service is needed. The service needed light typically refers to an overdue oil change, although it will occasionally display a code indicating other scheduled maintenance should be performed. When an Acura dealer performs the scheduled service, the mechanic will reset the service needed light. Owners can reset the service light manually if they perform the maintenance themselves.

  • Turn the ignition switch to the "II" or "ON" position.

  • Press the "SEL/RESET" button on the control panel repeatedly untli the service needed light is displayed. The "SEL/RESET" button is located on the steering wheel.

  • Press and hold the "SEL/RESET" button for more than 10 seconds until the word "RESET" is visible on the display.

  • Press the up or down arrow button on the steering wheel to highlight the word "RESET."

  • Press and release the "SEL/RESET" button once to reset the service needed light.
