How to Reset the Oil Warning on a Pontiac Aztec

The oil warning light on a Pontiac Aztec uses a computer system that detects and monitors the quality of the oil. Other vehicles that feature oil change lights simply use mileage intervals to trigger the light and inform the owner it's time to change the oil and service the vehicle. Depending on whether the Pontiac Aztec has a Driver Information Center (DIC) center or not, it will still have a "Change Oil Soon" light, but there will be different procedures to reset the light.

Driver Information Center (DIC) Equipped

  • Place the key in the ignition and then turn it to the On/ACC position with the engine off.

  • Press the "mode" button on the DIC until "Oil Life Left/Hold Set to Reset" is displayed on the DIC screen.

  • Press the "set" button and hold it down until "100%" is displayed on the DIC display screen.

  • Wait until three brief chimes emit before turning the ignition key back to the off position.

  • Start the engine of the Aztec to ensure the oil warning light ("Change Engine Oil") is no longer illuminated on the instrument panel. If it still is, repeat the procedure.

Non-DIC (Manual Change Oil Light)

  • Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON/ACC position with the engine off.

  • Step on the accelerator pedal fully to the floor three times within five seconds.

  • Turn the ignition key to the off position.

  • Start the engine to ensure the oil warning light is no longer illuminated on the instrument panel. If it is, repeat the procedure.
