Replacing a Cabin Air Filter in a Monte Carlo

Some models of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo are equipped with a cabin air filter that traps pollen, dust and other allergens to prevent them from entering the passenger compartment. Chevrolet recommends replacing the cabin filter on the Monte Carlo every 10,000 miles or once a year. Driving in heavy traffic or dusty conditions can cause the cabin filter to become dirty more quickly. A dirty cabin air filter is not as effective at keeping the air clean, and it will also cause the air conditioning motor to have to work harder to provide air flow.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Cabin air filter
  • Move the windshield wipers away from the windshield until they stay in an up position.

  • Lift the hood and prop it open.

  • Peel off the weather stripping from the passenger side of the cowl in the engine compartment below the windshield.

  • Unclip the wiper fluid hose in the places where it covers the cowl. Move the wiper fluid hose to the side to allow access to open the cowl.

  • Unscrew the fittings on the left and right side of the cowl with the screwdriver. Lift the cowl cover out of the engine compartment.

  • Lift out the cabin air filter. Place a new filter in the compartment. Make sure the arrow printed on the side of the filter is pointing up.

  • Replace the cowl cover. Replace the fittings that hold the cowl cover in place.

  • Reposition the wiper fluid hose over the cowl. Fit the hose into the clips over the cowl.

  • Replace the weather stripping. Press down along the weather stripping to fit it into place. Close the hood.
