2003 Buick LeSabre Electrical Problems

The 2003 Buick LeSabre is abundant with electronics. Equipped with an OnStar communication system, head-up display, StabiliTrak traction control, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power seats, a CD player and ABS means any number of electrical problems can occur. Fortunately, the 2003 Buick LeSabre has no major reliability problems or recalls for the electrical system.

Battery

  • The main source for every electronic in the 2003 Buick LeSabre is the battery. When a battery can no longer hold a charge it is considered dead and can cause many electrical problems. A drained battery, which can be caused by leaving electronics on for an extended period of time without running the LeSabre, can also cause electronic malfunction. A drained battery can be corrected with a jump start or recharge.

Alternator

  • The Buick LeSabre's alternator is used when the vehicle is running to recharge the battery. If the alternator is broken the battery can be drained. The alternator is operated by a belt connected to the engine, a broken or worn belt can also cause the battery to drain.

Wiring and Fuses

  • All of the 2003 Buick LeSabres electronics are connected by wires and fuses. If a wire is broken or a fuse is blown related electronics can malfunction. Fuses can be easily diagnosed by determining which electronics are not functioning and referring to the owners manual for correlating fuses. Finding a broken wire can be much more difficult and may require pulling the entire wire for the related malfunctions before spotting the problem.

Spark Plugs and Wires

  • If your LeSabre is idling rough, doesn’t start, accelerates slowly, experiences poor gas mileage or stalls it may be related to the spark plugs or wires. The spark plugs and wires use electricity to cause a spark in the engine to ignite the fuel. Bad or poorly functioning plugs and wires can result in the aforementioned problems.
