The high-mounted third brake light on a Toyota Corolla indicates when the brake pedal is depressed and the vehicle is slowing. This is the only dedicated brake light on the car, and if it goes out, you could be pulled over for having a busted taillight. These indicators use traditional incandescent bulbs, which are cheap to replace. Removing the bulbs should take about five minutes.
Sit in the backseat and face the rear window. Lift the plastic cover going around the third brake light and remove it from the panel.
Locate the two screws at the base of the third brake light. Unscrew these from the rear deck, using the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Lift the panel up and out of the rear deck.
Twist the brake light bulb counterclockwise out of the housing, using your hands. Pull the old bulb straight out of the housing.
