The Durango is a popular SUV from Dodge that combines ruggedly handsome looks with plenty of practicality, thanks to its generous size and interior dimensions. The Durango is also a great second hand buy on the used car market. Like any older vehicle, though, the Durango can suffer from a variety of problems, one of which is an improperly functioning instrument cluster. You can replace this part easily, however, with the right tools and approach.
Pull the instrument panel trim off of the clips that hold it on and pull it away from the dashboard. Grip it on both sides and gently pull it off. It should just pop off.
Remove the three screws that hold the lower dash panel cover to the dash with a Phillips screwdriver. Gently pull the lower dash panel away from the dashboard.
Disconnect the cable that runs from the gearshift selector to the gearbox indicator lights in the instrument panel. This cable should be accessible once you have removed the lower dash cover.
Unscrew the four screws that hold the instrument cluster to the dashboard. Gently pull the instrument cluster from the dashboard, ensuring that you do not scratch or damage the plastic face.
Install the new instrument cluster by carefully sliding it back into the dashboard. With the screwdriver, install the four screws that hold the cluster to the dashboard and tighten them.
Reattach the cable that goes to the gear selector. Install the lower dash panel with the screws that hold it in place on the lower edge. Slide the instrument gauge trim back on by pressing it back over the clips, ensuring that it is installed straight.
