Honda Odyssey Battery Replacement

Replacement of the battery on a Honda Odyssey is a quick and easy maintenance job that may be accomplished in a few minutes. With four nuts holding everything into place, even if you are the most novice of mechanics, you can perform this job without any problems or issues.

Battery Removal

  • A 10mm ratchet or wrench will be needed to loosen the two nuts holding the battery in place and removing the battery holder itself. This will be the only thing holding it in place. Once removed, the battery will move freely. The last two nuts will hold the positive and negative cables onto the battery posts. They need to be removed for the battery to be removed fully from the vehicle. Once the battery is disconnected, the car will have no power and will lose data, such as the radio code and any presets.

Battery Installation

  • The installation will be the removal process in reverse. Setting the new battery into place beneath the hood, connect the positive and negative cables back onto the battery. This should not be a difficult process to figure out which wire is which because they have been designed not to reach other to the other post to prevent mix up. If you have trouble, however, the red cable will go onto the positive and black onto the negative. They will be identified by a symbol above each post on the battery.

Once the cables are connected, put the holder back into place with the bottom hooks connecting to their designated spot next to the battery and tightening the nuts until the battery is securely in place. This will be the end of the installation process and the new battery is installed. It is recommended to buy a new battery directly from the dealer so that it will fit properly. Always make sure the new battery has the same cold cranking amps as the old battery so that it can be guaranteed a long life.
