Vinyl decals can add style and a custom look to an automobile. Being exposed to the harsh outdoor conditions, especially the sun, means that eventually the graphics will need to be replaced. It does not require great skill, just the patience to take on what can be a painstaking job. These methods will enable you to remove vinyl decals that have been exposed to the baking sun.
Start with the window decals. These can be removed by using a razor blade or razor-blade-edged scraping tool. Work the blade underneath one edge of the graphic and scrape in small back and forth motions. The decal will usually come off windows relatively easy no matter what their condition.
Soak the graphics with a citrus-based cleaner and allow them to sit for about 15 minutes. This will soften the glue bond and make the removal process easier.
Use the blow dryer on its hottest setting, and, beginning at one of the edges of the graphic, start to heat the vinyl. This will warm the glue and make it easier to peel off the graphics.
Slide the edge of the plastic razor or plastic scraper under the edge of the graphic that you are heating. Grab hold of the lifted piece of vinyl with your fingers on your free hand and slowly peel the graphic off the vehicle. Continue this process, peeling as you heat the vinyl with the blow dryer.
Use a rag or sponge and tar or bug remover to remove the remaining glue left on the vehicle after the graphics have been pulled off.
