Toyota released the mid-sized Highlander in the 2001 model year. In 2008, Toyota completely redesigned the Highlander, giving it sleeker headlights and body lines. The 2010 Highlander came standard with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 187 horsepower. It had an optional 270-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine available, as well. Toyota fitted the 2010 Highlander with a maintenance reminder system that alerted the driver that an oil change is due via a "Maint Reqd" light. Resetting this light is a short, yet precise process.
Turn the ignition to the "On" position. Press and release the trip meter reset stalk until the odometer display shows trip meter A. Turn the ignition to the "Lock" position.
Press and hold the trip meter reset stalk and turn the ignition to the "On" position, without starting the vehicle.
Observe as the "Maint Reqd" light extinguishes.
Turn the "Engine Stop/Start" switch to the "Ignition On" position, without starting the SUV. Press and release the trip meter reset stalk until the odometer displays trip meter A. Turn the "Engine Stop/Start" switch to the "Off" position.
Press and hold the trip meter reset stalk. While holding the stalk, turn the "Engine Stop/Start" switch to the "Ignition On" position, but don't start the engine.
Observe as the trip meter reads "000000," indicating you reset the system correctly. If fitted with the multi-information display, "Complete" appears on this screen instead of "000000" on the trip meter.
