Where Is an HHR Oil Filter?

The Chevrolet HHR (Heritage High Roof) is a station wagon/SUV crossover. Like the Chrysler PT Cruiser, the HHR features retro styling that makes it look like a vintage vehicle.

Oil Filter

  • The oil filter on an engine is responsible for filtering the oil as the engine is running. This ensures that the supply of oil remains as clean as possible until the next oil change. The filter on an HHR should be changed every time the oil is changed, usually every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

HHR Filter Location

  • Rather than a standard spin-on oil filter, the HHR uses a cartridge type oil filter, a practice that has become increasingly popular in modern cars. The filter is located in a black housing that is located just off-center on the driver's side at the front of the engine. Open the hood, stand in front of the engine and you should see the housing between the center of the engine and the right side of the engine.

Changing the Filter

  • The HHR's filter location makes it easy to replace during an oil change. Simply unscrew the top of the housing with a 32 mm wrench. Pull the filter out and install the new one in the same orientation. Reinstall the top of the housing.
