How to Reset the Engine Oil Light on a Chevy Tahoe

Most model years of the Chevy Tahoe use a computer system that indicates when to change the oil and oil filter. The computer tracks driving conditions, such as engine temperature and revolutions, to calculate the oil life remaining until another oil change is needed. A Change Engine Oil Soon message is displayed when the computer determines it is time for an oil change. If you change the oil yourself, you can reset the engine oil light manually. The procedure for resetting the light is similar for every model year. These instructions apply specifically to the 2010 Tahoe.

  • Place the vehicle into Park.

  • Press and hold the Set/Reset button on the control panel.

  • Release the Set/Reset button when the oil life display changes to 100 and the oil light disappears.
