How to Add Transmission Fluid to the 2000 Lincoln LS

Transmission fluid must be added to your 2000 Lincoln LS while the engine is hot. By allowing the engine to run for a while, it will heat up to operating temperature, which will give you the correct reading when it is time to assess transmission fluid levels. The transmission dipstick tells you if more fluid is needed. The two lines on the dipstick (one low and one high) indicate how much fluid your car currently has. The ideal level for fluid is between the two lines.

Things You'll Need

  • Funnel
  • Turn on the engine and put your car in "Park."

  • Get out of the car and let it sit for about 15 minutes so that the engine can warm up. Open the hood so that you can add fluid.

  • Pull the dipstick from the car's transmission. Wipe off any fluid and replace the stick, before pulling it out once more.

  • Read the fluid levels.

  • Place a funnel over the hole to add transmission fluid. Pour the fluid into the funnel. If the levels say your transmission has enough fluid, then you are finished. If not, pour fluid into the hole where you pulled out the dipstick. Follow the proper steps to check fluid levels and keep adding transmission fluid until you reach the correct fluid level.
