Meritor Oil Seal Interchange Information

ArvinMeritor makes lip seals for corresponding Meritor axles to keep in oil and keep out contaminants. Seals for forward unit input and forward and rear unit output axles have seal sleeves attached to the installation yokes, while rear unit input seals are fully unitized.

Installation Tools

  • Replacement of Meritor oil lip seals for forward unit input and forward unit output axles requires the use of a generic sleeve driver and a generic seal driver. Meritor oil seal replacements for rear unit input axles require two model-specific seal drivers.

Axle Yoke Removal

  • Place a flange or yoke bar over the drive shaft's output or input yoke to hold it in place before removing the yoke nut and washer. This prevents gearing damage. Use a puller tool instead of a hammer or mallet to pull off the flange or yoke. This prevents damage to the drive-line.

Warning

  • Bolt-on deflectors must be removed from forward and rear unit output axles before new oil seals can be put on. The output sleeves will not attach to the output seals with the deflector in place.
