How to Remove a Trailblazer Fan

A cooling fan in your Chevy Trailblazer that is cracked or otherwise damaged needs to be removed and replaced. The fan is installed within its shroud and connected to the radiator and cooling system. There can be other reasons for removing the fan and its clutch. You need to do this to service or replace other components like the radiator itself. You might need to replace other parts within the fan shroud, like the fan clutch.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Pliers
  • Large container
  • Assistant
  • Remove the intake air baffle from the radiator support, removing its bolts with a wrench and its push pins with pliers.

  • Disconnect the cooler lines for the transmission at the fan shroud and the engine bracket. Disconnect the electrical connector for the electro-viscous clutch at the fan shroud.

  • Loosen the hose clamp for the upper radiator hose and disconnect it from the radiator; have a large container under the radiator to catch the coolant that will spill out.

  • Turn the fan clutch hub at the water pump counterclockwise to remove it.

  • Unclip the fan shroud from the side panels of the radiator and have another person tilt the radiator and condenser forward. Lift the fan and shroud up and out of the engine compartment.

  • Unscrew the bolts connecting the fan to the clutch using a wrench and remove the fan from the clutch and shroud.
