How to Get Rid of the White Letter on Tires

Although some people like the tires on their cars to have white lettering because it draws attention and gives it a race car look, other car owners find the letters annoying. For the latter group it is important to remember the lettering is part of the tire, so you cannot safely remove it. With that in mind, the only safe solution is to take several steps to hide the lettering from view.

Things You'll Need

  • Tire paint
  • Tire black
  • Magic marker
  • Shoe dye
  • Cover the white letters on your tires with paints that are especially designed to enhance the lettering on tires. These paints come in a variety of colors. You can paint the white letters black to match the color of your tires.

  • Take your tires to a tire shop, and ask them to reverse the tire so the side of the tire with the lettering is facing inside when mounted on the wheel, which technically does not remove the lettering, but it does hide it from view.

  • Hide the letters with a product called tire black, which turns the white letters black and lasts a long time under normal use.

  • Disguise the letters with black shoe dye or a black marker, which won't cover the tires for long, but they do ofter a temporary solution.
