How to Change a Tire on a Dodge Durango

It is important to know how to change a tire in case you get a flat tire and are stuck on the side of the road. You also can change your own tires if you need to switch from snow tires to non-studded tires, or if you need to rotate your tires. Changing a tire on a Dodge Durango is a process that can be completed in less than 30 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • jack
  • iron wrench
  • torque wrench
  • air ratchet
  • extra tire
  • Retrieve the jack and iron wrench from the rear cargo area of the Durango.

  • Use the iron wrench to loosen the lug nuts, but do not remove them.

  • Jack up the Durango until the tire is off the ground. You will place the jack near the tire that you are changing. Make sure the parking break is engaged before you jack up the car.

  • Remove the lug nuts with an air ratchet or the iron wrench.

  • Remove the tire from the Durango. The tire will probably be stuck, so you will need to kick the tire to loosen it. It should fall off if you hit it with enough force.

  • Place the new tire on the Durango and put the lug nuts on the wheel. Tighten the lug nuts just enough so the wheel is attached.

  • Lower the wheel to the floor, by releasing the jack.

  • Use a torque wrench and tighten the lug nuts to their required foot pounds. You must tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern. Start on the top lug nut, then tighten the lug nut directly across from it. Continue tightening the lug nuts directly across from the one you are currently working on until they are all tightened. It is the same as the pattern you would use to draw a star on paper.
