How Do I Calibrate a Subaru Outback Compass Mirror?

Subaru Outbacks are known for their AWD systems, which can take their drivers and passengers to remote locations across the country. Given their "go anywhere" clientele, Subaru saw fit to add a digital compass embedded in the rearview mirror. As with any compass, its direction is only as good as its calibration. If you suspect your Subaru Outback's compass mirror is pointing you in the wrong direction, calibrate and continue on your way--this time, in the right direction.

  • Locate the zone in which you are driving by referencing Subaru's zone location map.

  • Hold down the right button on your compass mirror until the word "ZONE" appears.

  • Release the button, then press it again to find the zone number you are in. Once you have reached your zone number, release the button and wait until the compass mirror display clears.

  • Find a large open area away from radio towers and large buildings.

  • Turn off any extraneous items including chargers and radios.

  • Hold down the left button until "CAL" is displayed and proceed to drive in a slow circle until calibration is complete and a direction is displayed.
