How to Tune Up an Acura Tl

The Honda Acura TL was first introduced to the public in 1995. The vehicle is a luxury four-door sedan that, as of 2008, was in its fourth generation of production. In order to keep your Acura TL running smoothly and properly, you will need to keep up with routine maintenance by keeping the engine tuned up. Luckily, a tune-up is a very simple project that an amateur car mechanic or car owner can do in their own garage with a few simple tools.

  • Drain the oil from the engine and replace it with fresh oil. Oil can build up sludge, which makes your engine work harder than necessary and downgrades the performance of the engine. Change the oil every 3,000 miles or at least every six months. Make sure to use the proper oil that the Acura calls for.

  • Inspect your tires every 7,000 miles. Check to make sure the tires are inflated properly. If the tires are low in air, fill them up to the proper capacity. Also check the tires over looking for damage. Take the tires off the Acura TL and rotate them.

  • Apply lubricant to all of the Acura's door locks and hinges. Your doors and locks are susceptible to rust and squeaking noises. By applying a small amount of lubricant, you can cut down on the rub between surfaces and reduce the squeaking.

  • Replace the Acura's spark plugs. Unplug the spark plug wires from the spark plug. Use a spark plug ratchet to help you unscrew and remove the spark plug. Use the ratchet tool to put in the new spark plug and then plug the wires back into the spark plugs.

  • Check the fluid levels in your engine. Make sure that all of the coolant and other fluids your vehicle needs are at the appropriate level. If any of the fluids are low, replenish them immediately.
