Recommended Fuel for a 1994 Honda Accord

If you just want to know what octane to run in your 1994 Honda Accord, you can safely run fuel with a minimum octane rating of 86 or better, but there is a little more to it than that. Some areas now sell ethanol blends, and some sell other oxygenated fuels that are blended with ether, methanol or alcohol. Knowing which blends you can use is key to preserving your Accord's fuel system.

The Breakdown

  • Your Accord's engine is designed to run a maximum of 10 percent ethanol. You can use gasoline containing up to 15 percent ether, and you can use gasoline containing up to 5 percent methanol as long as it also has corrosion inhibitors to protect the fuel system. If you must run a fuel with a higher blend percentage, run a fuel additive to counteract the effects of the ethanol, ether or methanol.
