Ford F-100 Pickup Fiberglass Body Work - Tech Articles - Classic Trucks Magazine

Package Deal Part X

We all know that the reproduction steel aftermarket is growing all the time, but there are still some areas of the market it might not be able to reach, mostly for economical reasons. Stamping out a fender or a bed is one thing, but a fairly complex truck cab, like the '56 Big Window, is another. Not to say it can't be done, but it simply might cost too much in the end. Since fiberglass is much more inexpensive and easy to work with, for most people it may be their only chance to own one of Henry's rare haulers.

Jumping into the mix here at CLASSIC TRUCKS and sinking my teeth into the Mail-Order F-100 project right off the bat has been fun, and I get to deal with something new--fiberglass. Of all the cars and trucks I've owned, built, and wrenched on, I've managed to elude the world of fiberglass. I'm well aware of the long ongoing battle between fiberglass and steel, and sooner or later I knew my time would come. So put down the hammer and dolly, pick up some Mar Glass, and follow along as the crew over at Paint 'N' Place in Placentia, California, gets the Bebop Glass Works body ready for final bodywork.
