Stillen & AP Brakes Radi-Cal

AP Racing, the leading manufacturer of performance brake and clutch systems for road and race cars, has announced a revolution in brake caliper technology, in the form of a new design concept that improves three key areas: efficiency, cooling, and driver control.

Through studying the dynamic processes on a vehicle under braking, and the resultant loads, cooling ducts were integrated into the design which, in turn, significantly lowered the operating temperature of the caliper. With this lower temperature, the caliper offers increased performance, increased reliability and AP Racing believes a safer alternative to existing calipers found in racecars.

Unfortunately, because the current Radi-Cal line is currently for the top levels of motorsports only, brakes were priced in upwards of $30k+ per car. Most of them were developed for smaller wheels (15" in NASCAR, 13" in Formula1, etc.) and very wide rotors, which makes wheel fitment a huge challenge, making them less than ideal for street usage.

Stillen' debut of the new Radi-CAL brake lineup at this year’s SEMA is a weekend track racers dream come true. These new Radi-CAL road calipers features a 2-piece aluminum body with H-structure, and a non-symmetrical design developed to have a large reduction in mass yet improved resistance to braking torque. Another benefit is increased caliper cooling surface without decreasing structural rigidity.

STILLEN has developed applications for popular setups, including Nissan 350/370Z, Infiniti G35/G37, Audi A4 / A5 / S4 / S5, BMW 325/328/335/M3/M5/M6, Chevy Corvette/Camaro, Ford Mustang, with many more soon to come.
