Duramax Fuel Filter Install - Web Exclusive

Every truck owner should have a minimum set of skills for maintaining their rigs. The lifeblood of your vehicle is the fuel. Without it, your Chevy truck won't go anywhere. But if the fuel is dirty, you're going to do damage to your engine and that's not good, either. A clean fuel filter in your truck means clean fuel injectors and a clean fuel pressure regulator. Changing the fuel filter also extends fuel pump life. Check with the vehicle manufacturer or manual to determine how often your filter should be changed. Do replace your fuel filter with a high quality one. A better quality filter will prevent costly repairs to your engine because it will stop dirt from clogged your fuel injectors. With my dads help, we went through the steps of changing the fuel filter on a Chevy Duramax but the principles can be applied to many vehicles. Things you will need:
- A cold beverage
- 2 wheels chocks
- Drain pan
- Container for waste fuel
- Shop towels
- New fuel filter
- 7 mm nut driver
- Water-in-filter (WIF) wrench
- Fuel filter wrench
- Push Pin pliers (or screwdriver and needle nose pliers)
Put the waste pan under the truck. Diesel fuel may leak from the filter housing. Open drain valve on bottom of fuel filter. Unscrew the fuel filter from the housing.
