Truck Trend Garage: 2004 Nissan Frontier Code P0327
Q: I have a two-wheel-drive 2004 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab with the 3.3-liter V-6. Code P0327 came up, and I can't find the knock sensor. It's supposed to be on the block under the intake.
A: That's not a quick and easy job. The knock sensor is located in the cylinder valley -- that's the bottom of the V where the cylinders slope down toward the crankshaft. To access the sensor, you have to remove the upper and lower intake manifolds. If you're not a serious do-it-yourselfer, get it to a quality shop. You should make absolutely sure it's the sensor or sensor circuit causing the DTC. The sensor input can be tested at the PCM, first. You can also locate and inspect the knock sensor wire leading into the valley for damage. Keep in mind that knock sensor DTCs are common on several brands of V engines for a specific reason. The valley offers a warm, cozy spot for rats to hang out. Once there, they can't resist chewing through the knock sensor harness.
