Truck Trend Garage: 2005 Land Rover Range Rover E-Box

Question: When driving my 2005 Range Rover, I hear a high-pitched noise coming from inside the car. It keeps going for about a minute even after I turn off the engine. I can't tell for sure where it's coming from, but it's annoying.   |   Truck Trend Garage 2005 Land Rover Range Rover Answer: It's a somewhat common problem. The high-pitched screeching sound is coming from what Land Rover calls the E-Box. It may sound like the noise is coming from inside the passenger compartment, but the E-Box is actually mounted under the hood, and if you opened the hood the noise would be even louder. E-Box is just a term for the housing that shields the Engine Control Module from the adverse underhood environment. The noise is coming from a cooling fan that keeps internal temperatures down to prevent electronic damage. Next time you hear the noise, open the hood to confirm the cooling fan failure. Replacement is a small job for a technician, but a do-it-yourselfer may not want to get involved. You might want to check with Land Rover for a quote on parts and labor.
