2009 Dodge Ram 2500 Smittybilt M1 Fender Flares Install - Project Big Horn

There’s no denying it: Trucks look good with big tires. This is especially true when it comes to heavy-duty diesels, which seem to have been designed with large rubber in mind. Trouble is, with oversize tires comes the risk of rock chips to the truck’s body, and most states have laws that govern how far out of the wheelwell tires can protrude. In the August 2013 issue, we installed a set of 35-inch Dick Cepek Mud Country tires and Gun Metal 7 wheels on our 2009 Dodge Ram 2500. Like most Rams with aftermarket wheels and larger tires, the big meats looked great but stuck uncomfortably far out of the fenders. Fortunately, the folks at Smittybilt have just released the M1 line of fender flares, which is specifically designed for full-size trucks like ours. Constructed from OEM-grade ABS plastic, the flares are heat- resistant, UV stable, and paintable if desired. Installation is a breeze, no drilling is required, and all the needed hardware, including rubber gaskets and decorative stainless steel rivets, is included. When fitted, the M1 fender flares provide up to 2 extra inches of tire coverage and are a quick and easy way to give any truck a more rugged, off-road look. Installation was a snap, taking just a couple of hours’ worth of work in the driveway with basic handtools. Overall, we are impressed with the fit and finish of the flares and feel they really complete the look of the truck.
