Precision Grille Install

The aftermarket is just full of custom truck parts to give a more personal look to any truck. And grilles, like this Precision Grille, are one of those easy-to-install items that will make your truck look better in a few minutes. Since this is a double-duty real-estate shuttle truck for agent Janet Chard to view property with her clients, she wanted it to look as nice as possible. Since she just had a Rancho lift kit installed by Coos Bay Off-Road (Oregon), she wanted them to add the new grille too.   |   Precision Grilles has a grille for all the popular pickups and cars. As you can see from this '05-'06 GM HD 2500/3500 pickup and '07 classic 1/2-ton (PN 601295) kit, it fits around the center grille badge and installs in about 30 minutes. No kidding, this grille could be installed by your wife and kids in a matter of a few minutes. Not all of Precision Grilles' custom billet grilles are this easy to install, however. Precision Grilles, in Santa Fe Springs, California, makes billet and wire mesh grilles, grille guards, steel and fiberglass roll pans, hidden hitches, and more for both cars and trucks. Check the company's website (www.precisiongrilles.com) for a look at its complete product line. This Precision Grille (PN 601295) fits '05-'06 GM HD 2500 and 3500 Silverados and '07 1500 1/2-ton classic pickups. It actually installs over the top of the original factory grille. That means there are no parts to remove. The tools needed to complete the job are a screwdriver and a 3/8-inch open-end wrench. The first part to remove on the truck is the plastic windguard on top/front of the radiator. The plastic buttons holding the guard just pop in and out. Use the screwdriver to pop the heads out of the holes. With the plastic cover removed, you have access to the back of the grille in front of the radiator. The nice feature about this installation is there are very few parts to install, not much to take apart or remove, and very few tools needed. The grille comes in two sections-upper and lower. This leaves the GM badge in the center of the grille just like the original grille. A quick look at the instructions to get oriented shows you there are eight threaded shafts that thread into the back of the lower half of the new grille to hold the four brackets to the back of the lower half of the factory grille. The eight screws go through the large hole pattern in the stock grille and are held in place with the four rear brackets (see photos). The smaller upper section of the grille installs in the same fashion. Replacing the plastic radiator cover only requires you push the buttons back into the holes with your thumbs. No tools required here. The easy-to-follow instructions will walk you through the other 30 minutes to complete the installation. The finished effect is cool. This Precision Grille puts the smooth look back in your truck.
