I'm stoked because I've finally found a rag that has parts and information for my mini, an '87 Mazda B2000. It's a great truck that I want to make purdy. I've dropped the front 3 inches with torsion bars and the rear 3 inches with blocks. My tire guy tells me that a 15-inch rim is the biggest I can run without altering my fenders or wheelwells. I want 17s. Will Toyota 4x4 fenders bolt up to my truck? I've been driving my Mazda day and night for seven years and have put more than 250,000 miles on it. Love your mag; this is the first time I've ever subscribed to anything. Help me if you can.

You can definitely fit 17s on your Mazda. You can also bolt on a set of Mazda 4x4 fenders and even a 4x4 bed (if you can find one) for added clearance. Your wheel choices are going to be a bit limited unless you go with a billet wheel from Intro, Boyds, Billet Specialties, or Colorado Customs, but each company will have a wheel that will fit your truck. Call me crazy, but a few months ago a buddy and I had a little too much to drink one night and decided that my '87 Mazda would look cool with the top cut off. So we did the 40oz Sawzall dance, and to make a long story short, I don't know if it's cut right. I don't want to buy a kit because they don't fit. If you or any other mini-truckers could help a brother out, I'd appreciate it. You know, seal it up and lock it down. Oh yeah, I want to keep the top removeable.

Let me see if I have this right. You wacked the roof off of your truck while under the influence of some alcoholic beverages? Let me be the first to congratulate you for being a complete jackass. I'm only kidding. Without seeing your truck, it's impossible to say if you cut it correctly or not. The first course of action I'd recommend is not the easiest, but it is the best way to fix the roof. Find a competent fabricator who can work with sheetmetal and have him build you an all-steel convertible. He may be able to salvage your stock roof if you didn't butcher it too badly. The second way to fix your truck - and this will be cheaper and easier - is to purchase a convertible kit from Aim Industries. The company's kit consists of some latches that screw into the roof and the cab of the truck and plastic caps that cover the areas where you cut the roof out. Good luck, and next time you get drunk and decide to hack up your truck, make sure you at least take some pictures and get video of the carnage for me.   |   letters To The Editor August 2002 nissan Hardbody Ouch!
My boyfriend Johnny and I love MT and read it over and over every month. I wanted to tell you about his Nissan Hardbody. It was stock when we began dating 10 months ago, but it has come a long way. We've lowered it with drop spindles, installed a custom exhaust system, bolted on some Z-71 rims, 'bagged the front, and installed air shocks in the rear. Everything was so good until yesterday. Some of his friends asked if he could pull a three wheel, and when he tried, he ran into a tree. His truck is pretty messed up now and he's really depressed. I thought that maybe seeing his mini in MT would cheer him up. Thanks for taking the time to read this letter. He doesn't know that I'm sending this letter to you.

Well, he knows now. Hopefully seeing his mini in the magazine will cheer him up and motivate him to fix his ride. By pure coincidence, I know a guy who did the same thing to his truck a few weeks ago. Except he three-wheeled it into a parked car. Maybe three-wheeling in a busy environment isn't such a hot idea, now is it guys?
