Power Stroke Necessity: AeroForce Technology Interceptor Gauge

Imagine you could monitor every parameter your Ford’s PCM could: record information, run performance tests, and read and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)—all from your A-pillar. Thanks to AeroForce Technology’s Interceptor scan gauge, you can do just that. Released back in 2008, its revolutionary gauge was an immediate hit with 7.3L Power Stroke owners who wanted to know exactly how their truck was running and how to diagnose their engine when something was wrong. As a bonus, quarter-mile, eighth-mile, and 0-to-60-mph times and speeds can also be measured.   |   The AeroForce Technology (FD Series for 7.3L Power Strokes) Interceptor came with everything needed for installation: all wiring, OBD-II connector and power cord, and an optional gauge face and bezel. To get an accurate boost reading (we had previously maxed out our 35-psi mechanical gauge), we had to install one of AeroForce’s 60-psi boost sensor kits (arrows). Available through Complete Performance, the Interceptor retails for $269.99, and the boost sensor kit goes for $65.99. After all the recent fuel and high-pressure oil upgrades performed on our ’97 F-350, we installed this all-in-one gauge to help keep an eye on some key items, as well as troubleshoot any engine-related issues that might arise. As we continue to modify the truck, we’ll be able to know critical parameters such as: injection control pressure (ICP), duty cycle on the injection pressure regulator (IPR), injector pulse width (in milliseconds), and boost.   |   As you can see, the Interceptor gauge’s compact, 21⁄16-inch diameter allows it to fit in any standard aftermarket A-pillar pod. It simply plugs into the OBD-II port and the power cord can be installed out of the way, up under the dash. One thing the gauge requires you to do on 7.3L-powered trucks is use the supplied power wire and tap into a key-on power source—otherwise it will remain on at all times, which creates a 50- milliamp draw on your batteries.
