Drew Technologies had its latest toy on display at the 2009 SEMA show: the DashDAQ XL. Initially released in the summer, the XL builds on the success of the previous-generation Series II by adding a larger 4.3-inch touch-screen, more internal memory (from 16 MB to 32 MB), and enhanced features to create an exhaustive, expandable, all-in-one solution.
The most attractive qualities of the newest DashDAQ are undoubtedly its scanning and data acquisition tools. The XL plugs into most modern vehicles’ OBDII ports (MY1996 and newer), pulling information from a vehicle’s onboard diagnostics and information system. Access to this information provides an in-depth look and better understanding of a vehicle’s internal workings, is essential for monitoring overall vehicle health, and is crucial when tuning. The measurements, which can include horsepower, fuel economy, etc., are displayed on customizable, digital gauges. For enhanced precision, Drew Technologies has loaded the XL with enhanced parameters specific to Chrysler, Ford, GM, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Toyota models.

While functionality has increased, product presentation has not been overlooked. The DashDAQ XL now uses polished and textured finishes for the plastic housing, rather than painted finishes. New, special plastic material is more tolerant of higher temperatures, while depressions have been introduced for the SD card slot and cable connectors, making insertion and removal simpler.
