Auto Insurance Claims: SR22, own a car, insurance agency

Question
Hello, I'm required to get an SR22 butI don't own a car. I plan on filing for a non-owner SR22. DO I have to get non-owner insurance as well or does the SR22 cover my insurance. My parents are taking me off there insurance plan so I would only have the SR22. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Katie,

An SR22 is insurance. When you go to an insurance agency to purchase a non-owners SR22, it will include insurance. SR22 referrs to state regulation 22. This is a requirement that the insurance company that maintains your insurance keep the state notified of the status of your insurance. If you miss a payment on the insurance, the insurance company is required to notify the state, who will then revoke your drivers license.

I hope this helps
