Auto Insurance Claims: Would my Auto insurance cover damage done by a restoration Company ?, collector car insurance, car insurance company

Question
Richard,

I recently pulled my vehicle from a restoration Company due to them missing 3 completion deadlines. They were supposed to complete a frame off restoration. The car was in very good shape and running when it went to them. (This is a very unique high profile vehicle that I get contracted to bring to events) Looking back I regret making this decision. Not only because of the outcome, but the fact the car could have survived easily without a frame off.  Just wanted to make her perfect or close to it.

Shortly after pulling the car the business was seized and is currently under investigation.  The owners have departed and nowhere to be found.  (I'm sure you have heard these horror stories before) The car is not running and several parts are missing.  What was put together, was put together incorrectly and the car will need to be dismantled and fixed.  I kept up my auto policy during the restoration through a collector car insurance company.  Since there is no means of recovery through the business.  (there is no money to be had)  can I make a claim to my Insurance company ??  Thanks

Answer
Hi Bill,

This is a very unfortunate situation. Collector car insurance is a bit different than standard auto insurance. You would need to call them or read your policy thouroghly to see if there would be any coverage for this type of thing. My first impression would be no, but I could be wrong.

I hope this helps
