Auto Insurance Claims: Financial responsibility, auto accident liability

Question
We were driving back to campus and my friend was driving my car, I think she fell asleep because it wasn't any weather or anything that could have contributed to accident. We flip over, hit the guard rail and had to be cut out of the car. We only had minor injuries but my car was a total loss. My questions do have any legal ground to seek financial compensation from my friend, or is just my loss? This occurred in Michigan.

Answer
If your friend was negligent and you were uanble to stop her from driving your car, then you may have some recourse against her. See an attorney on this. As to the total loss, if your insurer underpays you for the value of your car, get the eBook at UClaim.com entitled Total Loss Auto for Insureds.

If you did not have collision coverage, you should get uninsured motorist property damage coverage for your car, usually only $10 or $15 dollars every 6 months, since your chances of getting hit by someone else is 50\50.
